  1. This Sunday is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k in Reno. I will be running in Aunt Dianne’s name and, of course, designing a creative, “catchy” team name/slogan, for Aunt Dianne is definitely deserving of such(and we all know she is the most creative in the family). My thoughts and prayers are with all of the 5 D’s.
    Love always, Nicole

  2. We are sending you all our thoughts and prayers. Nicole, wish I could be in Reno to run that 5K with you. Good luck! I am collecting yoplait yogurt lids with my students, so if you eat either Dannon or Yoplait send me your lids. Each lid is worth 10 cent. A dime!!! Go figure! Barb is with us always. you love you Doc. Take care. Joan

  3. I have you in my prayers, plus my whole family do also. I had worked with Barb at Stewart Title, so I know the whole family are fighters. So you go for it girl.

  4. Dianne…sending you lots of love and prayers! Several of us in Ames have found dimes in the past few days, so now are putting it together! Barb must be urging us to pray for you. So we will take her ever so subtle (ha!) charge and send you not only prayers, but positive energy, love and light from the middle of the country.

  5. Dianne – Sending you lots of positive energy..having gone through all of this myself 5 years ago I know it all too well. Its a unfamiliar territory you’re headed in but you will get through this and you WILL do fine!!! I think Barb was preparing me to offer support(I’ve been finding those dimes!)Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns or help that I can offer along the way! You will be in my thoughts & prayers!

  7. Doc- sending you lots of support, prayers, and love. So… yesterday I was in Ames for work and found a dime! Right away I knew there was a message there from Barb, but I couldn’t quite figure it out
. When I got home from work and read the Barbstrong email update, I said “Ah- ha”! I got it Barb! I will continue to send positive vibes your way!

  8. Doc, Love you! Boys are doing well in Iowa. Matt is praying for you each night as he falls asleep after reading. He is concerned if it has spread since that is what happened with Barb. He already has your site up on his computer screen. It pops up with all his favorite sites, so thus he can monitor how you are doing. Also, Matt wants Delaney and Julianne to come to Camp Kesem next year with him. I will be there for you in every way you need, and the good news is I live only 2 hours away! I will now be wearing purple and pink! Love, MK, your big sis and your site administrator…with Scott and Dave!

  9. Hello My Sweet Soul, I worked with Barb at Stewart Title. We all love her. I prayed for her and will pray for you. May God bless you with the peace and comfort that you need. Stay strong because you are strong.

  10. Doc and Family, You are in our thoughts and prayers every day as we again become warriors of faith and healing. Sending you lots of love and healing light to carry you on the journey ahead.

  11. Di: surreal. I put $5 in the box at the Safeway register for Breast Cancer Research Foundation today. Let us know your org of choice for BC Research so I can support the correct one. As I told MK, I used to do the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in Seattle, Washington, to support a 42 year old woman from our church dx’d BC when her youngest was 9 months. Have some old T Shirts, want one? 🙂 Hope I’ll see you at Purple Stride in November. Love, Kathy

  12. Dianne, sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts your way. So sorry you’re having to go through this. It sounds like you have a great prognosis. Just make sure you get the best doctors to help you. take care, Kolleen

  13. Doc, One of the blessings Barb gave us was getting to meet her wonderful family. We are sad to hear you have to go through this but thankful you have such an amazing support system. We are praying for you each day and for the strength and peace you and your family will need. Love and Prayers, The Hrubys (Tiffin, IA)

  14. Dianne and family, I am so sorry you are faced with yet another struggle with that darn “C” word…grrr! I’m another friend of Barb’s from Ames and my son, Tyler, is good friends with Matt. Know that we are including you in our prayers and we know you will get over this “speed bump”. You have an amazing family and support system, so make sure to rely on them when you need to. Stay strong!

  18. Dianne,
My thoughts are with you. You are surrounded by lots of love and positive thoughts. Many hugs, and pink all over.- xxoo- lesley

  19. Saw Dianne in her room about 4:30. A little groggy, but upbeat and very grateful. She especially feels blessed by such a supportive family and network of friends. The 3 girls were headed over this evening to check in with mom. So good to see Dianne with a smile of relief.

  20. Dianne, prayed like heck yesterday and am going back for more today. Hang in there, you’ll be home soon and are already on your way to recovery. Love you, AR 🙂

  28. I can share in your joy. It is so exciting and amanizg to see the pant and shirt sizes go down. Around Jan 12th I realized, with the help of a friend that I didn’t need to shop in the plus size department of any store any longer. I can wear a size 6 in pants and depending on how they are made an xl or lg in tops. I had surgery in early Aug and have lost 108 pounds. Keep up the good work. I’m rooting for you! Enjoy your brand new life!

  29. If you have any of the following sypomtms you may take it granted that you may have Breast cancer subject to checking and confirmation by an Oncologist duly conducting tests like Mammogram etc.Knowing the signs and sypomtms of Breast cancer may help save your life. When the disease is discovered early, you have more treatment options and a better chance for a cure. Most Breast lumps aren’t cancerous. Yet the most common sign of Breast cancer for both men and women is a lump or thickening in the Breast. Often, the lump is painless. Other potential signs of Breast cancer include:A spontaneous clear or bloody discharge from your nipple, often associated with a Breast lumpRetraction or indentation of your BreastA change in the size or contours of your BreastAny flattening or indentation of the skin over your BreastRedness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orangeA number of conditions other than Breast cancer can cause your Breasts to change in size or feel. Breast tissue changes naturally during pregnancy and your menstrual cycle. Other possible causes of noncancerous (benign) Breast changes include fibrocystic changes, cysts, fibroadenomas, infection or injury. If you find a lump or other change in your Breast — even if a recent mammogram was normal — see your doctor for evaluation. If you haven’t yet gone through menopause, you may want to wait through one menstrual cycle before seeing your doctor. If the change hasn’t gone away after a month, have it evaluated promptly.-

  30. I know how you feel, my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 non-small cell lung canecr in May, they did radiation and chemo which got rid of the canecr in her lung and lymph nodes in and between her lungs. But, it had spread into her bones and several other lymph nodes, they did more radiation and chemo but she and was only given a few months to live, that was in mid-august. I could not accept losing my mom who is only 43 so I did a lot of research and found what I feel is her best hope. Maybe a good option for your friend , too, there are a lot of Breast canecr patients here as well. Also, while she is doing shemo look into interveneous vitamin C, you would probably have to do it through an alternative doctor, because mainstream doctors unfortunately are not well versed in natural supplements. I listed a few links for vitamin c info at the end.I am currently in the Bahamas with my mother. There is a clinic here that has been in operation for over 30 years. We have been here for 4 of our 8 week stay, everyday is really inspiring. A lot of the patients stick around in the meeting room/ waiting room to visit, and share stories and catch up. There are 40 people all talking and laughing, talking about canecr and life. The returning patients talk about how bad their canecr was 4, 8, 10, 18 even 28 years ago when they started coming to the clinic, the canecr that has since disappeared. There is nothing dangerous or foreign to the treatment, just building up your immune system in a very effective manner that allows it to identify and fight the canecr. If you want to know more contact me or go to I cannot tell you how impressed I am with what I have seen and how my mother has already improved. I know one man who was diagnosed with pancreatic canecr, he skipped all US, conventional (poisonous, dangerous) options and went to the Bahamas and is doing great now. Another man who has been coming here for 18 years that had prostate canecr. People with just about every type of canecr. But, they are honest here, you send them your medical information and they will tell you whether they believe they can help you or not, and they will send you home if they don’t think you are benefiting. My mom has shown drastic improvements and is feeling so much better. and we are in the Bahamas so we are having a good Mother-Daughter vacation. When we got here she was on 75 mg of morphine a day plus 6ml of liquid morphine a day, now she rarely takes any morphine, and only occasionally takes Advil. Some of the pain she does get is associated with tumor kill, it happens to most patients as their immune system begins quickly destroying the canecr cells, it is a good thing. There are a lot of alternative treatments out there worth looking into. I have also done a lot of research on the Cesium Chloride/DMSO treatment and think that it has merit and you can do it at home. The clinic here believes that a supplement/liquid called VIBE works really well in addition to other treatments, I am going to look in to that some more. One very helpful website isUS doctors push chemo and radiation, but when you look at the statistics and side effects it is not a good option for most people. My Mom had both before we came here and now that I know more about them and have researched them I feel horrible that I let her go through them. She was lucky (so far) the only long term side effect she has shown is short term memory loss. The stories I have heard from the other patients here about how they were treated by US medicine astound me. One lady went home to have a shunt put in her liver so she would be ok to come here, but they refused to put it in unless she agreed to do chemotherapy, is that what our country is about? Denying helpful procedures unless we agree to dangerous, toxic ones? The drug companies run US medicine at least when it comes to canecr treatment and it is sad. Most doctors will tell you not to try alternative medicine and some will refuse to even see you again if you do. To some degree they are not to blame, they have not been taught anything about it other than that it is evil and wrong and they would be rejected by their colleagues if they suggested alternatives.I am not saying that this will cure anyone, but I have seen dozens of people that it has helped and dozens more that are just starting, but already showing improvement. Please whatever you do, research first. I am so happy my mom is feeling better and I want to be able to help everyone else who’s parent, sibling, child, friend or self has canecr, I know how it feels to watch them get worse and watch the treatment make them more sick. Good luck!! My prayers are with your family.
